PVSTOP, distributed under license by LTV Technologies & Supplies, is a cutting-edge solution designed to enhance safety in photovoltaic (PV) systems. As the number of solar installations grows across South Africa, so do the fire and electrical risks associated with them.
In partnership with our business collaborators, we have established Civitas Risk Control — the exclusive operational team responsible for national deployment, training, and emergency-response integration of PVSTOP. Together with our Technical Partner Network, we ensure that PVSTOP is delivered, installed, and maintained to the highest safety and compliance standards.
As a patent-protected, OEM-licensed solution available only through certified partners in South Africa, PVSTOP provides a revolutionary fire-retardant coating that instantly de-energizes solar panels during emergencies, protecting lives, property, and investments.
In collaboration with public-sector stakeholders and fire-service authorities, the initiative is also progressing toward Section 36 alignment to ensure transparent procurement and equitable pricing for critical-safety equipment nationwide.

Making Solar Panels Electrically Safe
PVSTOP is a fire-retardant solution that acts as a liquid blanket to make solar panels electrically safe.
In the event of a short circuit or emergency — such as a fire, flood, or structural collapse — solar panels continue to generate potentially lethal DC voltage, even when the main power is off.
PVSTOP instantly isolates the DC current, protecting people, property, and power.
How Does It Work?
The primary function of PVSTOP is to render solar panels electrically safe while also serving as a fire-retardant barrier.
When applied, the coating blocks light to the PV cells, halting power generation within seconds.
Covering only about 40 % of a panel is often enough to interrupt production, while a full coating reduces DC voltage to zero — making it safe for emergency responders and maintenance crews.
Fast & Portable Deployment
PVSTOP’s spray delivery systems allow users to cover solar panels in seconds.
The solution neutralises power production in under three seconds, and can fully disable panels in as little as six seconds.
Designed for flexibility, PVSTOP operates much like a fire extinguisher, available in hand-held bottles, backpack units, and large pump-and-hose systems.
It can be safely sprayed from distances up to 10 metres, depending on conditions, allowing roof-top or ground-level application in emergencies.
Sticks Firm — Peels Clean
The polymer film adheres securely to PV glass in all weather, even on wet surfaces where firefighting foam would normally slide off.
Once dry, it peels off easily by hand without damaging the modules — even after 12 months of UV and weather exposure.
The coating is non-adhesive, non-toxic, and safe for disposal in domestic waste once removed.
Fire Retardant & Non-Conductive
PVSTOP is non-conductive and specially engineered for use during live electrical fires.
It stops electrical arcs, extinguishes flames, and eliminates re-ignition risk — turning dangerous PV arrays into safe, de-energized systems that can be handled by firefighters and technicians alike.
Reactive Safety for a Renewable World
Unlike preventative devices that must be installed ahead of time, PVSTOP provides a reactive safety solution that can be deployed instantly when needed.
It empowers solar owners, installers, emergency services, insurers, and facility managers with a single product that ensures PV systems can be safely neutralised in seconds.
Distributed Under License in South Africa
PVSTOP is distributed under license by LTV Technologies & Supplies, with Civitas Risk Control serving as the exclusive operational partner responsible for national deployment, training, and emergency-response coordination.
Together with our growing PVSTOP Technical Partner Network, we support fire brigades, insurance companies, solar installers, and municipal authorities across the country.
Compliance & ESG Alignment
PVSTOP South Africa operates fully within the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993), the Fire Brigade Services Act (Act 99 of 1987), and the SANS 10400-T building fire-safety framework.
Our mission supports ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) principles by preventing environmental contamination and enabling safer renewable-energy operations.
For public-sector use, PVSTOP is progressing toward Section 36 procurement alignment, ensuring transparency and affordability for critical-safety solutions.
Protecting People, Property & Power
PVSTOP South Africa stands for safety, compliance, and innovation.
Through our secure POPIA-compliant CRM platform, all product enquiries, training requests, and technical questions are handled directly by our verified team — or escalated to PVSTOP International for certification and global technical collaboration.

Applications & Stakeholders
Fire & Emergency Services
PVSTOP is a life-saving tool for fire brigades and first responders, enabling safe intervention during PV-related incidents.
South African firefighters face increasing exposure to live DC current on burning roofs and buildings with solar installations.
With PVSTOP, emergency teams can de-energize panels instantly, stop electrical arcing, and eliminate the risk of electrocution or reignition.
PVSTOP is recognised internationally and aligns locally with the Fire Brigade Services Act (Act 99 of 1987), SANS 10400-T, and NFPA 855 standards for energy-storage and PV safety.
Demonstrations are being conducted with City of Tshwane Emergency Services, City of Cape Town Fire & Rescue, and other municipal authorities as part of national fire-safety readiness.
Solar Installers & Maintenance Technicians
For the renewable-energy industry, PVSTOP provides a certified, reactive safety system that protects workers during installation, servicing, and emergency maintenance.
The coating can be deployed from the ground or rooftop, neutralizing DC current within seconds without damaging modules.
PVSTOP supports compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) and the Construction Regulations 2014, helping installers meet duty-of-care obligations while maintaining professional credibility.
Insurers & Risk Managers
As insurers evaluate growing claims from PV-related fires and electrical incidents, PVSTOP offers a verifiable risk-mitigation measure that reduces exposure, loss, and liability.
By including PVSTOP in safety policies and claims assessments, insurers help clients remain compliant with fire and building codes, POPIA data-protection requirements (for monitoring and reporting), and ESG risk frameworks.
Leading insurers and assessors in South Africa are already referencing PVSTOP as part of renewable-asset risk management and fire-response planning.
Public-Sector & Municipal Authorities
PVSTOP is progressing toward Section 36 public-procurement alignment as a sole-source patented safety solution, ensuring affordability and transparency for municipalities, energy agencies, and emergency services.
This allows government entities to deploy PVSTOP for fire-safety training, risk assessments, and solar-infrastructure protection without lengthy tender cycles.
All deployments are managed by Civitas Risk Control, the exclusive operational partner under license from LTV Technologies & Supplies.
Property Owners & Facility Managers
For commercial property portfolios, educational campuses, and homeowners with rooftop PV systems, PVSTOP provides confidence that solar energy can be both sustainable and safe.
By adding PVSTOP to a site’s EvacuPlan or fire-response procedure, facility managers can ensure that responders have a clear, reactive method to neutralize solar hazards.
This aligns with South Africa’s Building Standards, Occupational Safety Guidelines, and environmental-impact obligations, supporting broader ESG commitments.
Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) Impact
PVSTOP supports responsible renewable-energy growth by reducing environmental harm during fire suppression and protecting first responders from electrical injury.
Unlike traditional firefighting chemicals, PVSTOP’s polymer film is non-toxic, non-corrosive, and environmentally inert — preventing contamination of soil and water systems.
By integrating PVSTOP into solar operations, organizations demonstrate commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7, 11 & 13) and South Africa’s Just Energy Transition framework.
